Product Description Amanda Cates was accustomed to falling into nightmares, she had witnessed terrible things ever since she could remember. Horror scenes that an innocent childs mind should never have to processes. She belongs in the Hovel, the city of Healers, a fact that has been pushed on her since she was ten years old. She is an out cast for fleeing the city. It didnt matter that she was only thirteen when she fled or that she had eventually returned to the strange community that had snatched her up when she turned ten. In the minds of too many Healers she would always be other. Naturally she thinks that the Hovel couldnt get any more unwelcoming. She was wrong. While eating lunch with her life long friend Cole she falls into a Scar, which was a normality. Being a Healer she was used to falling into the terrible memories of others. After all, helping the spirits trapped in them was the whole point of her existence. This Scar was different, this spirit had a demon feeding [...]off of its pain. She is attacked by the demon and rendered unconscious. Leaving the spirit of Kaedin, a nine year old little girl, trapped in the torments of her past. When Amanda wakes she finds that she has been poisoned by demon venom. She is deemed unclean and sentenced to death by their ominous godlike rulers, The Ancients. Her fellow Healers readily agree with the Ancients decision. A death sentence for her own good, to save her soul. She pleads with them to find and save the little girl trapped in the Scar where the demon had attacked her, but they dismiss her request. A daring escape finds her and two friends on the run from the most powerful beings on the planet and their frightening Guard. No one disobeys an order of the Ancients, and their leader wont stand for it. Not realizing that his actions set into motion the means that might bring about his own destruction. Seeking a way to find Kaedins Scar she will set out after a rogue Ancient that fled the city decades before she was even born. All the while a power struggle back at the Hovel has the Healers wondering just how righteous their leaders intentions are.
