Suzi Quatro, the legendary 1970s glam rock sensation, has written her memoir, “Unzipped,” which tells the story of her life, from her childhood in Detroit to her rise to international superstardom. Born Susan Kay Quatro, she was raised in a musical family and developed a love for music from an early age. Her fractious family life and struggles to find her place in the music industry are candidly discussed in the book.
Quatro recounts her experiences touring with her all-girl group, The Pleasure Seekers, and her subsequent move to London, where she was “discovered” by producer Mickie Most. She married one of her guitarists, Len Tuckey, and had two children before their divorce in 1992.
The book is a humorous and conversational account of Quatro’s life, filled with stories about her time on the road, her relationships with famous musicians like Alice Cooper and Iggy Pop, and her experiences as one of the first major break-out female rock bassists. Quatro also shares her struggles with fertility issues, miscarriages, and a teenage abortion.
