Collected Essays

This edition of essays, written by Peter Singer, Professor of Bioethics at Princeton University, differs from the previous ones, in part because the world in which it is appearing is different from the world of the last decade. Readers who already know Singers’ thoughts on some topics may be surprised by his views on others. He tries to keep an open mind, to be responsive to the evidence, and not simply to follow a predictable political line. If you are not already persuaded that philosophers do have something to contribute to issues of broad general interest, we hope that this volume will convince you of that. Even more important, we hope it will convince you that if we are to solve the many problems we face, we need to discuss the ethical aspects of these problems in a manner that can reach across partisan political divides, and find the best solutions for all those affected by them.
