(This is an English version of his Malay book, Memori bukan Memoir)
Education is a blessing, one that makes it possible for us to read this book, and for this book to be written. A simple yet essential glimpse of how different our lives would be without education. That is how crucially entwined our fate is with education.
Education with its complex problems is described in several chapters of this book, which are arranged starting from the most important stakeholders in education: the spirit of education itself, followed by society, children, parents, teachers and lecturers, schools, scholars, and institutions.
Recalling Memories not Memoir in the writing of this book also reminded me of explanations of the many allegations I faced during my 20 months at the Ministry of Education, Malaysia. This book is a testimony of 20 months of reform that goes beyond the sensationalized and politicized topics of Jawi and black shoes. This book is my witness.
Once upon a time – a project of educational reform was begun, and now it must continue.
