[W. Rees](https://isidore.co/calibre#panel=book_details&book_id=7785) (ref:168.2): "In English, the best" commentary on Corinthians. * 1 Cor. 7: PDF pp. 113-38 * v. 1, p. 113 * p. 113: "'It is good for a man not to touch a woman.' These words are indeed true in every case", contrary to Protestant exegetes who think St. Paul is only reiterating the Corinthians' question to him. * MacRory argues from this verse for continence even in marriage: "It is good for a man to abstain from *lawful* carnal intercourse with a woman, *i.e.* , it is good for a man not to touch his wife. Everywhere else in the chapter γυνή means wife." * MacRory also restricts the extension of ἅπτεσθαι here: "'To touch' (ἅπτεσθαι) refers, as we have indicated, to carnal intercourse, as often in profane writers and in Scripture (See *e.g.* [Gen. xx. 4](http://drbo.org/cgi-bin/d?b=drl&bk=1&ch=20&l=4-#x), [6](http://drbo.org/cgi-bin/d?b=drl&bk=1&ch=20&l=6-#x) ; [xxvi. 11](http://drbo.org/cgi-bin/d?b=drl&bk=1&ch=26&l=11-#x) ; [Prov. vi. 29](http://drbo.org/cgi-bin/d?b=drl&bk=22&ch=6&l=29-#x))." ∴, St. Paul doesn't say never to associate with women (e.g., MGTOW), but that not having carnal intercourse with them is better. * v. 6, p. 117: He, as also [St. John Chrysostom interprets](https://isidore.co/calibre#panel=book_details&book_id=6549), "cannot be supposed to censure permanent abstinence from conjugal intercourse, provided it be by mutual consent, and provided also there be no danger of sin." * v. 28, p. 132: "'tribulation of (or 'in’) the flesh' does not refer to the pains of childbirth, but to the anxieties and troubles of life, which are greater in the married state, inasmuch as the married person has to think not only of self but of the partner and children." * 1 Cor. 9:5, PDF pp. 150-2 on " *mulierem soroem* " ≠ a wife: "Have we not power to bring about a Christian woman to minister to us from her means?" * [1 Cor. 11 on veiling](https://christianity.stackexchange.com/a/91507/1787): PDF pp. 186-91 (words of Consecration in that ch., too) * 1 Cor. 13:4-7 on charity's characteristics: PDF pp. 226-8. cf. the longer exposition in [Royo Marín, O.P.'s longer exposition (PDF pp. 382-409)](https://isidore.co/calibre#panel=book_details&book_id=7472); he, too, thinks v. 5's "not ambitious" (ουκ ασχημονεί) is "rather, 'behaveth not in an unseemly way'". * 1 Cor. 15:44: "spiritual body" PDF pp. 276-7: Since ∃ "a body governed by the ψυχή, there is also (in the Divine plan) one governed by the πνεῦμα." * 1 Cor. 4:15 on spiritual fatherhood * 2 Cor. 12:9 (PDF p. 455): " *virtus* (δύναμίς) *in infirmitate* (ασθενεία) *perficitur* (τελειούται)", upon which [St. Thomas commentates](https://isidore.co/aquinas/SS2Cor.htm#123): " *M* *irus modus loquendi.* " ("This is a remarkable expression"). Allo, O.P.'s [2nd ed. of 1 Cor.](https://isidore.co/calibre#panel=book_details&book_id=7121) was 1934 ([1st ed. of 2 Cor.](https://isidore.co/calibre#panel=book_details&book_id=7130) in 1937), and Cdl. MacRory cites it on PDF p. 26. [Cornely's "work](https://isidore.co/calibre#panel=book_details&book_id=8381) is probably the most exhaustive exposition of the Epistle that has ever appeared."
