I propose here to “inject” into the body of Freud’s texts an essential Lacanian category—the desire of the analyst—in order to test a thesis of Lacan’s: “[I]t is ultimately the analyst’s desire that operates in psychoanalysis” (Écrits, p. 724). This key should allow a reading of Freud’s work that is guided by Lacanian principles.
