This book includes a series of papers that were presented by lecturers and PhD-students at the European Communication and Media Studies Summer School (officially called the Intensive Programme in Media and Communication), in August 2006 in Tartu (Estonia). The book consists of six sections: 1/Media and Democracy; 2/Participating in Europe; 3/Participating in European Media; 4/Theorising Communication; 5/Communicating Knowledge; and 6/Methods and Techniques. It also includes all PhD- student abstracts of the work presented at the Summer School. The Summer School is organised by the University of Tartu, in collaboration with a consortium of now 17 universities and ECREA. ECREA’s partnership allows PhD-students - that are an individual ECREA member or whose institution is an ECREA institutional member - access to the 2007 Summer School, which will take place in August 2007 in Tartu.
